The PTO needs YOU to maintain the programs the children and teachers have come to rely on!
As always, our goal is to enhance the education of our students at Cole and Spofford. Here are some of the ways you have helped the PTO do that this past school year:
Hands-on Workshops Last year, your generosity allowed the PTO underwrite $15,000 of curriculum enrichment programs this year. Each grade level benefits from one or more fantastic programs each year. For example in March, staff from the New England Aquarium came to Cole and led the second grade students to discover the fascinating properties of water. In April, all fifth grade classes were entertained by the well-known Mr. Wahle and his Techsploration show about Electricity! Following the group show, Mr. Wahle provided a Circuits and Electricity hands-on classroom workshop to each fifth grade class.
Fun & Creative Classroom Supplies In addition, the PTO funded $20,000 of “Teachers’ Wishes.” These are individual grant requests from teachers for supplies that will directly touch our children. They include book collections, reading software, musical instruments, chair organizers, math fact kits, Time Magazine subscriptions and so much more!
School Spirit and Family Events! The remaining $15,000 of your donations gave the PTO the ability to make contributions to new playground equipment at Cole and Spofford, help defray the costs of the 2nd and 6th grade celebrations, give discretionary funds to the principals (this year spending including partial funding for speaker Molly Sliney who talked to students about believing in themselves and for Cole logo items), maintain the beautiful planters and Cole courtyard and teacher refreshments for special meetings.
This amount also helped the PTO partially fund several popular family events during the year including the Talent Shows, Pappas’ Pasta Party, Halloween Parties, Fall Fundown and the Pool Party. These family events help build a sense of community in Boxford through enhancing our relationships and showing our support for our schools.
Birthday Book Clubs Many of you have contributed directly to the school libraries via the Birthday Book Clubs. These PTO programs are run by volunteers who worked all year to help the libraries keep their collections up-to-date.
Supporting Technology In addition to running our annual programs, the PTO also coordinated and shared the cost with BEST to fund 20 iPads to support the students at Spofford in an effort to increase the amount of technology reaching the classroom. The PTO portion was paid for from our reserves.
